Get On Your Bike and Join Us for Bike Month
May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try. Please consider joining us in May to learn to cycle safely for years to come!
In 2024, we'll be celebrating ways to #BikeThere during National Bike Month. For some, that will be joining us for Bike to Work Week (and Day!) and for others, that will mean biking to coffee or around the block. With a focus on well-being and connection, we’ll be highlighting how you can #BikeThere during Bike Month and benefit physical and mental health. Whether you’re riding for fun, fitness or with family, or taking essential trips to work or shop, you are part of our movement for safer streets, connected communities, a healthier planet, and happier people.

What is it?
The National Bike Challenge is a nationwide event uniting thousands of current bicyclists & encouraging countless new riders. It is a FREE & EASY way to challenge yourself, your colleagues, & your community to ride more while competing on a local, state, & national level.TEAM UP FOR THE BIKE MONTH CHALLENGE!Throughout May, riders everywhere are joining forces and creating Teams to ride more, encourage new riders, climb leaderboards and win amazing prizes.
Your Team can be formed of your friends, family, co-workers, riding club, dance class, book group - you name it! Teams can consist of up to ten people and you can ride anywhere, any time in May.
Here’s all the important information:🎳 Teams are limited to a max of ten riders
🧑✈️ The rider who creates the Team is designated as ‘Captain’
🏊 Teams will compete in pools of 10 - the pools will be randomly selected
🏅 During the challenge, you’ll rack up points to climb your pool’s leaderboard
🚲 Every mile and day you ride and every person you encourage earns you points
🎁 The more points you have, the more prize entries you gain
⭐️ New riders* on your Team? Great! They earn double day and distance points
*A 'new rider' is someone who doesn't ride at all (yet), or less than once a month when they sign up to Love to Ride.
Whether you are a road warrior or the occasional commuter, your rides will be included on the National Bike Challenge Heatmap. This will be an IMPORTANT tool for future consideration of cycling infrastructure in your area. Enjoy the way YOU ride while supporting local advocacy efforts. Join in and help us fill the map!
The Challenge starts May 1st and continues the month of May. Let's see how many River Region Teams register! We look forward to riding with you!
